Banyuwedang

I am just looking around and resting a bit today. Banyuwedang, where is my homestay, is quite laid-back as it is not (yet) run over by tourist. I walked to an ATM to update my almost empty wallet after yesterday’s birding tour. Check out a few pictures I took ‘en route’ to the ATM. See them one by one, or click what intrigues you.

Babi guling

Actually, only the rectangular piece on the left side of the plate is babi guling. Wikipedia says: Babi guling or babi putar (in Bali called be guling) is a type of food made from female or male piglets whose stomachs are filled with spices and vegetables such as cassava leaves and then roasted while rotating (rolling) until cooked, marked by a change in skin colour to brown and crispy. Initially babi guling was used to serve at ceremonies, both traditional and religious ceremonies, but nowadays babi guling has been sold as a dish both in stalls, restaurants, and even certain hotels in Bali and other areas. The origin of babi guling originally came from a group of Kei people, who inhabited the islands of Kei besar and Kei kecil. The Kei people are the best at processing pork.
